BEFORE THAT ? even now…peasant hunting high energy dogs such as Laikas ( Laikas are a much more extreme breed of primitive dog than huskies that people parade around with on leads as unsafe off leads in urban not natural to them environments btw) were fed VEGGIE SLOPS always as STANDARD as MEAT was considered too EXPENSIVE to waste on dogs lol. Cats ? people did not buy cats any PETFOOD lol...humans did not feed the invasive species to UK and USA and Australia etc cats petfoods ! that is unnatural...for humans to feed other animals than humans !

Whether a dog or cat or mouse or rabbit forced to live in human homes and cages only doing out when humans decide wearing collars chains leads going to vets taken there by humans bred to be killed as food animals…all these animals…are abuses of natural animal rights and natural lifestyles.

That said...feeding those "pets" at the very least should be vegan. Otherwise...do not keep any PET that involves you causing the deaths of MANY other animals just to feed it. There is NO value in RESCUES of cats and dogs destroying OTHER RESCUE ? worthy animals such as rabbits cows sheep et bred and killed by HUMANS for their food.

Plenty real life examples of dogs and cats living healthy full lives on vegan diets too Bramble famous welsh border collie lived 25 years...Little Tyke a Lioness lived 9 years died of pneumonia in USA an ex zoo lioness who chose to not eat meat. QED it is indisputable that dogs, cats, humans, ferrets etc can thrive on nutritionally complete vegan diets. It is all about nutrition. There is no reason that ALL animals cannot thrive on vegan nutrition.

Postage of local distributors tends to be approximately 6GBP/EUR/USD per 15kg for the largest pack of kibble and supplements that last 2 months for a medium sized active dog.
Therefore the price of say Benevo Organic GMO free non wheat content kibble is around 50 GBP/EUR/USD including postage for 1 large 15kg pack.
Supplements cost for say 1KG of yeast about 10 GBP/USD/EUR and last several months or 1 dog or cat. Vegedpg/vegepup/vegecat/vegekit small bottles of powder supplements also cost similar. 10 USD/EUR.GBP cost per month per large dog of supplements.
Due to weight and cost efficiencies...it is sensible to order a small bulk supply of minimum 2 packs to 30kg the limit for the GBP/EUR/USD postage standard cost. Delivery is usually within 2 days.

When ordering BULK KIBBLE commercial petfood...inform the supplier this is bulk buy to ensure the batch expiry life of average 8 months for most kibbles is ensured and not old batch stock shipped out. Calculate the cost effectiveness of the shipping/postage costs also. I found ordering 2 packs of 15kg at a time the most cost effective for UK local supplies. This will vary depending on where ordered from of course.

Cat and Dog Drinking water issues and options. Summary of my relevant reads and decision made. REDUCE the pH too acid generally water level in their drinking water objective. FILTER for chlorine fluoride and some elements but realise tap water has much antibiotics etc residues unable to filter out caused by pollution generally that has massively increased.
Adding...WATER is what 70 percent of our bodies consists of. Dogs Cats or Humans. It is also what is the major transporter and aid to DIGESTION.
Without water...Kidneys are affected bigtime for health problems.
Cats more than Dogs genetically as a species have more Kidneys health problems. WILD AND DOMESTIC ONES ! contrary to the BARF mad nutters claims that the water content of Flesh is enough for CATS...it turns out...WILD CATS suffer from Renal meaning Kidneys health problems bigtime...74 percent average hey. FLESH fed wild lions with Kidney problems ? how can that be ? toxins in the flesh they eat ? lack of water ?

ps not affecting VEGAN dogs and cats of course is the issue that RAW fed dogs and cats get massive health problems due to excess protein. besides other FATS also causing heart health problems and the gmo cattle feed processed into the flesh if eaten and antibiotics etc. Chicken causes the most pet allergies ...lamb is a common trigger for epilepsy..etc.

• Alcohol – Can cause intoxication, coma, and death
• Avocado – The fruit, pit and plant are all toxic. The toxic ingredient in avocado is called persin. They can cause difficulty breathing and fluid accumulation in the chest, abdomen and heart, vomiting, diarrhea, death, inflammation of mammary glands, cardiac failure, respiratory distress, generalized congestion, abdominal enlargement.
• Apple, Almond, Apricot, Peach, Cherry, Plum, Pear, Prunes & similar fruit – The seeds of these fruits contain cyanide, which is poisonous to dogs as well as humans causing diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, (Stem, Seeds and Leaves).
• Baby Food – Can contain onion power which can be toxic to dogs
• Broccoli – Gastrointestinal irritant
• Cat Food – Usually too high in protein and fats.
• Chocolate – Chocolate can cause seizures, coma and death. Baker’s chocolate is the most dangerous. A dog can consume milk chocolate and appear to be fine because it is not as concentrated, but it is still dangerous.
• Citrus Oil Extracts – Can cause vomiting
• Coffee, Coffee grounds, tea and tea bags –Drinks/foods containing caffeine cause many of the same symptoms chocolate causes
• Eggs (raw) Raw eggs can cause salmonella poisoning in dogs. Dogs have a shorter digestive tract than humans and are not as likely to suffer from food poisoning, but it is still possible. If your dog has a partial blockage in their intestines where food can be trapped, e coli or salmonella could breed more easily.
• Egg white contains the protein ‘avidin’ which forms a stable and biologically inactive complex with biotin. The avidin in egg whites will tie up the biotin so it cannot be used by the dog.”**
• Fat Trimmings – Fat trimmings can cause pancreatitis
• Iron – Human vitamin supplements containing iron can damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to the other organs including the liver and kidneys.
• Macadamia nuts – Macadamia nuts can cause weakness, muscle tremor and paralysis.
• Marijuana – Can depress the nervous system, cause vomiting, and changes in the heart rate.
• Milk and other dairy products – Some adult dogs do not have sufficient amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the lactose in milk. This can result in diarrhea. Lactose-free milk products are available for pets.
• Mushrooms – Acute gastric effects, liver and kidney damage, abdominal pain, nausea, salivation, vomiting
• Nutmeg – Tremors, seizures and death
• Tobacco – Nausea, salivation, vomiting, tachycardia (rapid heartbeat)
• Onion – Gastrointestinal upset, anemia, destroys red blood cells
• Grapes, Raisins, Prunes – Kidney failure, as little as a single serving of grapes or raisins can kill a dog.

Veganism is about respecting the life of all animals. Taking a life unnecessarily for food if avoidable is what vegans avoid, and since responsible for feeding our pets it is logical to feed them vegan also.
I would hope that those promoting saving pets lives would encourage and lead by example of showing that no lives need be taken by us of animals for our pet dogs and cats. The Term Vegan Revolution means challenging prehistoric views and practices of the past. It means being open minded to change, evolution and just new ways of living and doing things. It is clear that the arguments made against humans being vegans can be the same towards our pets dogs and cats being vegans. One can believe the world is flat not round against evidence provided.
For me...the fact humans cats and dogs can and have lived full lifetimes healthily on vegan diets is enough for me. I do not therefore believe that when it is obvious this is possible that any other lives need be taken. A life of an animal is of equal value no matter what the species...is a principle of veganism...so if not necessary vegans choose not to take lives. Taxonomy....additional clarification...is evolutionary classification. now....here i come ! dogs...are descendants of a cat like creature ! and we all descended from fish that landed then took to flight...birds being the highest latest form of evolution therefore logically. hardly good to mention "bird brained"... magpies are the only non mammal that can recognise its own self in a mirror. here are common cat/dog ancestors of cats and dogs !

This is a question about the TAXONOMY CATEGORY of physiology and classification of living organisms not a definition of what they can eat to thrive on nutritionally. In reality…

Farley Mowat, in his book “Never Cry Wolf,” described his experience observing wild wolves in the Alaskan tundra. He found, to his surprise, that wolves naturally ate large amounts of grasses, proving that their diet was by no means exclusively carnivorous. I truly enjoyed this book. The writer has a wonderful descriptive writing style where she vividly portrays the personalities of the dogs and sceneries of nature. I took this book with me this week on a 30 minute bus commute to work and found myself almost missing my stops a few times as well as wiping tears away over the death of Floyd. I learned a lot and have a tremendous amount of respect for them and the great love and care given to the dogs. This is one story I will always love to remember.

This is a book about treating animals with the same respect that we would show human beings. I would recommend it for vegans and non-vegans alike. Non-vegans probably need this story of compassion and sacrifice more than those who are already on board with the philosophy. After reading it how could one not want to be more like Anne Heritage? Of course treating animals with respect is just the logical thing to do. To abuse and eat them doesn't make any sense, for our selfish needs, or to feed our animal companions. The vegan lifestyle works for dogs too, which is the most important message of this memoir.
The book is primarily about Heritage and her life in rural England. We mostly hear about her dogs when they are first adopted and when they die. This is a very depressing book and I would not recommend it for people who are overly sensitive. My girlfriend, for instance, couldn't take it because it made her think about our dogs dying. The book is well written and easy to read. The language is clean and simple with vibrant descriptions of life in the country.
I only disagreed with Heritage on one point and that is when she said that professionals who work 8 hours a day should not adopt dogs. I have heard this from people at dog shelters as well, which surprises me because being alone with other dogs for 8 hours, five days a week seems better to me than being put to death. I never understood that argument, especially because Heritage never had a career or a real job her entire life it seems and was forced to live in a van at one point. That's not an ideal life for a dog either. But that aside, her example is one to strive for.

Her vegan dog diet is nutritionally complete and yet simple enough for anyone to make. Anne's dogs received hours of daily exercise to keep them healthy. Her love and respect for her dogs is clear throughout the writing of Anne Heritage.
Not only does Anne, as a vegan, respect her dogs--she also respects other people and the world around her. Her tone is warm and sincere. I highly recommend this book!

I bought this book because I was very interested in feeding my dogs a vegan diet and thought it would be more about how to do that. It was a nice story of the author's dogs and I did read the whole book so it did catch my interest. The author did mention a couple of times what she cooked for her dogs. I was very glad to read that her dogs thrived for many years on their vegan diets.

Here's undeniable proof that, just as for people, dogs do live longer on a vegan diet. How? The diet of brown rice, textured soy protein, lentils and steamed veggies allowed Bramble, a border collie, to live to 25 years (175 years in human years)! ZERO WASTE VEGAN "Pets/Companion Animals" ISSUES !
PETS/COMPANION ANIMALS ARE NOT a VEGAN way of living with other animals ! PETS ARE SLAVES OF HUMANS ! in an ideal world ANIMALS would NOT be OWNED as PROPERTY by us humans. We humans have created Frankenstein unnatural suffering freaks of nature in so many breeds of pets and farm animals engineered by selective breeding by HUMANS.
We call them "pets" a derogatory ownership implying term adding " companionship animals" to make us feel better about them being OWNED and having no CHOICE in who owns them or anything else about their lives. Their natural instincts would lead them to go run free off leads anywhere they pleased, coming to us when and IF they pleased and not being FED by us as no adult animal in a "natural" world is fed by another animal they feed themselves.
So EVERYTHING about a "pet/companion animal" is unnatural in reality. Considering the "unnatural" urban living in houses and driving in cars airplanes world we humans live in, the animals we have domesticated over centuries are indeed unnatural prisoners. "PET" is a patronising word for an animal in reality.

The NATURAL arguments.
Well once we accept our PETS are not NATURAL creations as breeds designed like modern farm animals by humans selective reproduction not EVOLUTION we can start to open our minds better than live in fantasies that we humans are also grunting neandertals living in caves dragging women around by the hair without WIFI and not FLYING in the skies like BIRDS do naturally in planes etc etc. The very fact that anyone is FEEDING their PETS tells us they are not wild cannot survive without our control over them well and if they did they would die NATURAL deaths early on through poisoning of food they might catch for themselves like bones piercing their stomachs and diseases generally that wild animals die from. Of a litter of WILD WOLVES a minority lived to the ages our modern pet dogs live as they DIED from all sorts of such things NATURALLY. Foxes are the closest remaining WILD animal similar to our pet cats and dogs...they eat skin fur and bones of animals they catch...so where are those elements of any of our PETS that eat RAW/BARF ? and what about accepting the DEATHS caused by perforated stomachs by bones and diseases from the animals eaten ? so humans to keep their pets alive of course control and change what an animal living WILD would eat in reality. Fish today have toxins like mercury and plastic beads in them that do not disintegrate...pollution has caused this. Those that eat fish nowadays increase the risks of CANCERS we have recently been informed by scientists in the human nutrition and health fields....it is not illogical to realise those toxins and cancer risks are also passed on to our pet dogs and cats if they eat them. Pesticides hormones etc in the factory farmed even grass fed farm animals eating pesticide coated grasses pass into the food chain. Cancer etc risks from all that.
Wolves realities...Average lifespan 8 years, however only 1 of the litter usually survive to adulthood. Close family unit supported and trained by all the pack of approximately 8 wolves the young leave the pack at approximately 2 years old to create new packs. This was in the past when movement was easy, today the world has changed for wolves as all living creatures. PET DOGS have NOTHING in common with the lives of wolves ! They are CASTRATED by us humans ! do not live in packs who instinctively decide which wolves mate and reproduce ...their young do not live with them for 2 years before parting ! etc etc ! What did 7 out of 8 baby wolves die of before reaching age 8 ? poisoning from food often !
Do animals NATURALLY live in houses and sleep on couches and beds ? do they EAT OFF PLATES ? do they wear collars and chains and bells and leads ? Castrate/Sterilise themselves ? What ADULT ANIMAL has an animal of another species PROVIDE FOOD to it ? COOK their food ? is cooked food NATURAL to animals ? need I answer that obvious question lol ? Do our pets CHOOSE to be STERILISED and CASTRATED ? do we really think that we humans do not make ENORMOUS numbers of CHOICES about every day of our pets' lives that are AGAINST their natural CHOICES ? when did any dog or cat show it wanted to be sterilised or castrated ? Our pets get no choices about even where they live ! we humans decide all that for them. They do not decide even the TIME or quantity of their MEALS ! we force all that on them. No lion in the wild ever eats cooked meat or asks for that...and yet we do that to our pet cats and dogs...force our choices on our pets in all areas of their lives. A PET unlike a WILD animal has FOOD PROVIDED for it by an animal of another species ! that is totally UNNATURAL ! We humans have FORCED all this unnatural lifestyle on the PET SPECIES of animals that we humans have engineered and selectively bred UNNATURALLY !
Does a pet cat or dog recognise what the PASTE or KIBBLE food we provide them with as anything in particular ? all they recognise is FOOD ! nutrients !
We humans "deprive" our pets of their possible instincts to go KILL OTHER ANIMALS to eat ! we hardly allow our pet dogs to go rip up other peoples pet cats/rabbits/ducks ! so we "force" them against their "instincts" by training forcing them to comply with OUR lifestyle wishes in all things...we chain them...house them and take them out for walkies when WE want to.
Regarding TASTE...our pets are more attracted by their 4000 times stronger than humans sense of SMELL rather than TASTE. We humans enjoy variety in our food..variety of taste...however our canine companions have less ability to tolerate great variety and it upsets their digestive systems often to change their diets so a more routine standard not varied diet is actually better for them.
When some people try to talk about only eating NATURAL food...when it comes to PETS...let us be under no illusions...we provide them for 99 percent of us with COOKED HUMAN PREPARED foods. Cooking is NOT something animals do themselves lol of course...so from the very start...we are "forcing" if that is the word some like to use food or walkies or housing etc on our pets that is NOT NATURALLY THEIR CHOICE...and my dogs..like many dogs...would CHOOSE to eat CHOCOLATE massively which would KILL THEM ! so I do not think CHOICE of that should be allowed to them as it would kill them. When has a cat hunted and brought down a cow to eat ? what lion/cat goes fishing for fish to eat ? yet humans provide beef and fish to pet cats that is cooked processed food ! Since wild cats...ancient ancestors of our modern PET breeds of cats hunt and kill mice birds and small mammals like rodents mostly it would be more "natural" to feed pet cats those animals rather than cows sheep and fish ! let alone not cook them !
COOKING FLESH/MEAT increases CANCER risks in humans...the World Health Organisation has stated this clearly for flesh dead animals meat products...bbq processed foods being the most risky.
Now referring to FLESH...it seems the VETS area also saying COOKING destroys nutrients in pet foods based on flesh of dead animals ! and probably adds cancer risks to them also...COOKING is of course unnatural to animals we humans do that...so ALL the food we feed our PETS is unnatural to them ...unless they eat raw uncoooked peanuts etc ! raspberries etc as that cat video on this group was so nice to see ! oh well. So now I tend to believe that of COURSE our pets are fed (not FORCED I add) COOKED food by us and VEGAN cooked food is fine. It is about NUTRIENTS our pet needs at the end of the day. Since petfoods have those added to them to make them balanced and nutritionally complete we have to accept a compromise and just hope the quality of the food sourced is non GMO and not too full of pesticides, antibiotics and chemicals that pass anyway into any FLESH of dead animals if humans or pets eat those.

10 million cats in the UK would mean approximately 30 billion animals for their lifetimes to be bred and KILLED...housed fed and pollution dealt with air and water and land use that would be taken from wildlife habitats if fed a raw dead animals diet. 30 BILLION ANIMALS to breed and kill for uk pet cats alone ! get real ! (estimating 1 cat eats say 4 animals per week if eating RAW only that makes approximately 200 animals per year and approximately 3000 animals in a 15 year lifetime per cat. Cats eat fish based foods often which are smaller than chicken size animals so average of 200 animals taken. A small bird weighs about 30 grams and an average adult cat needs to eat approximately 150 grams per day of food which would theoretically be 5 birds per day of sparrow or 5 mice/rats or 1 baby rabbit size animal per day so 4 animals per week is a conservative estimate of lives taken to feed a pet cat. Since humans do not breed wild birds and mice to feed pet cats it means rabbits or chickens or cow beef or pig pork flesh so the calculations of numbers of LIVES of the larger animals would be lower than if rabbit flesh of course. A chicken is average say 1.5kg weight so 1 chicken would feed 1 cat of weight say 3kg for 10 days...36 chickens per year per cat...550 chickens per 1 cat lifetime. To feed 10 million pet cats on chickens would mean 5 billion chicken lives taken if fed RAW/BARF ) There are about 94 million pet cats in the USA and about 90 million pet dogs. It would be environmentally a massively destructive effect to feed those pets BARF / RAW besides not actually being considered HEALTHY by many experts or common sense.
A DOG of medium size 26kg weight needs on a RAW/BARF diet approximately 700 grams per day food. Approximately 4 whole chickens per week.

The average non vegan kibble petfood is about 30 percent dead animal content...so ? assuming 80 percent of pets (160 million pets) are fed kibble not RAW that means ? less dead other animals killed to feed pets compared to RAW feeding...would be maybe 144 BILLION ANIMALS BRED and killed to feed the kibble fed PETS in the USA and if 20 percent of the 200 million pets (40 million pets) are fed RAW an additional 120 BILLION ANIMALS BRED and killed to feed the RAW FED PETS in the USA over a 15 year period/lifetime of the 200 million usa pets dogs and cats.
Total currently being therefore 264 BILLION ANIMALS BRED AND KILLED to feed 200 million current level of home owned USA PET OWNED DOGS AND CATS. Based on 20 percent fed RAW and 80 percent fed KIBBLE mix. (over average pets lifetimes of 15 years basis) 18 billion animals per year. (200 animals per year on RAW/BARF per pet and 60 animals per year on 30 percent flesh kibble per pet)
Britain PETFOOD deaths of other animals involved based on the same split of kibble / RAW fed as 80/20 would mean the 20 million current levels of British Pet dogs and cats on average currently cause the breeding and killing of 26 BILLION animals size/weight of rabbits/chickens over their average pet lifetime of 15 years basis. 2 billion animals per year. RAW pet consumes 3000 animals Kibble fed pet consumes 900 in a pet lifetime.
Average number of Killed for pet food animals in an average 15 year lifetime for a RAW fed pet is 3000 animals(200 animals per year)...and for a Kibble mix fed pet is 900 (60 animals per year). Based on rabbit/chicken sized animals. (If fish many more lives of course) but lets stick with general averages based on rabbits and chickens common petfood animals.
Consider this ethical issue...an abandoned cat or dog ... currently of the over 50 thousand PER YEAR abandoned in the UK alone 50 percent are killed every year.
25 000 PETS destroyed every year in the UK. Over a 15 year period that makes 375 000 pets...coming up to HALF A MILLION. If keeping a RESCUE pet alive means destroying 900 other animals to just keep it alive for a 15 year lifetime (on a 30 percent flesh kibble food it is 900 animals but if fed RAW it is 3000 animals lives) ...maybe to reduce the waste of lives all these rescue dogs and cats should be destroyed if fed RAW/BARF. Why breed and kill so many more animals ? is a valid question. Every animal values its life does not want to suffer or be killed...chickens exist per DEFRA standards in cages of 19 chickens per 1m2 space for 6 weeks life length only if broiler chickens intended for MEAT.
Working on some numbers...to do with NO KILL POLICY of pets... 1000 USD per Pet average cost per year TOO LOW ESTIMATE cost assuming none get sick and need more than vaccines and worming tablet vet fees. 40 Million pet cats and dogs in the USA alone at the end of 10 years of 4 million per year NO KILL POLICY would result in at least 40 billion USD annual ongoing costs to keep them alive. What do the experts say about feeding pets raw diets? Just because wild animals eat raw meats does not imply that these foods are safe!

Past proponents of raw food diets believed that this was the healthiest food choice for pets. It was also assumed that feeding such a diet would cause no harm to other animals or to humans. There have subsequently been multiple studies showing both these premises to be false. Based on overwhelming scientific evidence, AAHA does not advocate or endorse feeding pets any raw or dehydrated nonsterilized foods, including treats that are of animal origin.
Homemade raw food diets are unsafe because retail meats for human consumption can be contaminated with pathogens. Studies that have been done on both commercially available and homemade raw protein diets have found a high percentage (30–50 percent) of them contaminated with pathogenic organisms, and up to 30 percent of the dogs fed such diets may shed pathogenic organisms in their stool. Many of the pathogens found in raw protein diets can be transmitted to the human population by contact with the food itself, pet, or environmental surfaces. Many people are surprised to learn that not only can dogs enjoy vibrant health on a vegan diet, but just like people, their physical condition can actually improve as a result of eliminating animal foods.
By genus, dogs are classified as carnivorous, but metabolically, they are actually omnivorous. This means that their nutritional requirements can be adequately met with a plant-based diet – as they can source or synthesize all the nutrients they require from plant foods with supplementation.
Skeptical? Check out the story of Bramble and the book story of the dog on amazon Bramble a vegan dog who lived to the age of 28 – a Welsh Border Collie making her one of the world’s longest-living dogs. Or how about the story of Piggy:
“When we first found him on the streets of the Dominican Republic, Piggy was just a pup – he had no hair, he was skin hanging over a skeleton, and he could barely walk a couple of blocks,” Tod recalls. “After a few months recovering on his vegetarian diet, he literally tripled in size to 45 pounds, gained a foot in height, exploded with healthy, soft fur … and he runs for miles on his three legs.”
Still not sure? Consider this story from CNN, where six veterinarians agreed that the nutritional requirements of dogs can be adequately met with a vegan diet.
“The important thing is that you use a diet that has been shown to be nutritionally adequate for whatever stage of life you’re feeding, and it is absolutely possible to find a good quality commercial pet food that doesn’t have animal products in it,” states veterinarian Kathryn E. Michel, an associate professor of nutrition at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
Michel recommends using commercial pet food that has gone through the Association of American Feed Control Officials feeding trials. “Or, if you prefer to cook meals from scratch, consult a credentialed expert in dog nutrition to ensure a proper balance of essential nutrients.” (See resources at the end of this article for more information.)
Sandy Anderson, owner and founder of VeganPet in Australia, explains the philosophy behind the development of her products:
“The National Research Council Committee on Animal Nutrition (NRC) and the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) have published guidelines of the minimum dietary requirements for dogs and cats… [Since 2005,] I have been working on making a dog and cat food using vegan alternatives. This food meets the NRC and AAFCO standards and, in some instances, exceeds them. The body’s basic building, energizing and replacing materials can come from a meat or chicken source or from a soybean and seaweed source. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that the basic cellular structure is the same from either source. I have now found all the vegan alternatives and am able to produce nutritionally-balanced food for both cats and dogs.”
In addition, there is evidence demonstrating that vegan diets might actually offer benefits to dogs who suffer from various health problems. As stated on the Harbingers of a New Age website:
“Studies and numerous case reports have shown that nutritionally sound vegetarian companion animal diets appear to be associated with the following health benefits: increased overall health and vitality, decreased incidences of cancer, infections, hypothyroidism, ectoparasites (fleas, ticks, lice and mites), improved coat condition, allergy control, weight control, arthritis regression, diabetes regression and cataract resolution.”
Over decades of experience of caring for rescued dogs in Gentle World, we’ve learned a number of things along the way that we feel are important for caregivers to know about.
As stated in the CNN article, because a dog has certain important nutritional requirements that are different to our own, it is necessary to pay careful attention to their needs, as you are making their decisions for them. But with a well-supplemented, balanced diet that is based on whole-foods, your canine companions can easily thrive as vegans. The health and vitality of our four-legged friends has actually surprised a few conventional vets!
If your dog is currently eating an animal-based diet, it’s wise to be gentle and careful when switching to plant-based food, as any change in diet has the potential to cause digestive disorders. Many dogs (especially young dogs who don’t have ingrained carnivorous habits) will take to it right away, but for some, it may take a few days before they are even willing to try this new, meat-free fare.
During the transition time, it’s a good idea to offer them foods that they find particularly irresistible (read on for suggestions). Once they realize how delicious their new food can be, we find that they tend to adjust pretty easily!
There are some important differences to be aware of. Non-vegetarian dogs generally eat one meal a day, whereas vegan dogs should get two smaller meals daily, plus snacks. A healthy snack would be several dog biscuits or a handful or two (depending on the size of your dog) of dry kibble.
For those who want the convenience or reassurance of ready-made foods that are nutritionally complete, there are a number of 100% vegetarian dog foods and snacks that meet canine nutrient standards. But to make it more affordable, and to incorporate more whole foods, we usually mix in home-made foods (explained below), along with some of the pre-made kibble, canned food or VegeDog supplement to help meet nutritional requirements.
Other simple points to take note of:
NB: There are some common human foods that cause toxic reactions in dogs. Onions, raw garlic, chocolate, nutmeg, raisins, and macadamia nuts are all known to be toxic to dogs. The ASPCA has a good list of foods that should remain ‘people foods’.
At least a third to a half of your dog’s meal should consist of a quality protein source. The remaining portion can be made up of a variety of whole grains, raw and cooked vegetables, as well as certain supplemental items. The following pages contain more specifics.
The Vegan Dog Nutrition Association recommends that the base of the meal be comprised of soybeans, lentils, rice, oats and sweet potatoes. Our favorite vegan vet tells us that pinto beans are the most non-allergenic food for vegan dogs, and that (along with sweet potatoes and carrots) they provide a good basis for the diet. Pinto beans and sweet potatoes can also be used exclusively for up to 6 to 8 weeks to determine whether your dog is suffering from food allergies.
NB: All legumes should be well-cooked (until very soft) and preferably mashed or puréed in a food processor.
Adding a sprinkling of sea vegetable flakes such as kelp or dulse helps to ensure a dietary source of minerals.
Dogs can enjoy fruit in small amounts – if they will eat it. Our dogs have enjoyed a variety of fruits, ranging from bananas, apples and orange, to watermelon! Just make sure that you don’t feed your dog fruit too close to a high-protein meal. The enzymes are different and can cause digestive discomfort.
A dog’s protein requirements are greater than ours. To ensure that your dog gets enough, make sure that approximately a third to a half of their meal consists of a high-quality protein source (such as well-cooked legumes – pintos, chick peas, soy beans, lentils, and split peas are all good). Other high-protein foods include tempeh, tofu, TVP, hummus, sprouted lentils/garbanzo beans (ground/blended).
Unless your dog requires a grain-free diet for health reasons, well-cooked whole grains are good sources of both protein and carbohydrates, as well as other nutrients such as B vitamins. We’ve found that whole grains in moderation work really well for our dogs, including brown rice, quinoa, millet, polenta (corn grits) or blended fresh corn kernels, oats, barley, and buckwheat.
Seitan (wheat-meat) is a high-protein vegetarian ‘meat’ made from gluten flour. Dogs absolutely love it, and (just like with humans) seitan can be a great help when ‘veganizing’ a formerly carnivorous dog. But since wheat gluten should not be consumed to excess, seitan remains an occasional treat for our dogs, as it is for our people.*
* NB: Plant-based meat alternatives sold in stores for humans are usually made from a combination of wheat gluten and soy, and are just as delectable to dogs as seitan is, but they tend to be more highly processed than home-made seitan. They’re nice for an occasional treat, or to win over a dog (or cat) who is used to the taste of meat, but they’re not very healthy to eat on a regular basis, for dogs or for humans.
Sweet potatoes, carrots and other orange-colored root vegetables are important sources of beta-carotene, and should be included on a regular basis (cut finely and/or mashed). Regular potatoes (in small pieces or mashed) are also fine to include on occasion, but they do not include this important nutrient. Dogs convert beta-carotene into Vitamin A, which is a necessary nutrient that is hard for them to get elsewhere in a plant-based diet.
Other vegetables (also cut finely and/or mashed) are good to include whenever possible, for the vitamins, minerals, enzymes and fiber. The best choices are pumpkin, squash, yams, carrots, and also other small bits of broccoli, brussels sprouts, cooked cabbage, etc. Raw, grated carrot and/or beetroot is good, as well as sprouts, and/or raw, dark leafy greens, finely chopped and mixed in well with their meals.
Some authorities recommend adding digestive enzymes to a dog’s diet, though this is not something we’ve had reason to be concerned about. The company Harbingers of a New Age sells a product called Prozyme; a supplement for dogs that contains all of the enzymes they require.
There are also some excellent supplements available for dogs, cats and other companion animals that are made from dark green leafy vegetables and other highly nutritious plant foods. One such product (which also happens to contain all the essential digestive enzymes as well as a comprehensive probiotic mixture) is called Green Mush, produced by Health Force Nutritionals. Green Mush is a whole food, green plant based powder, that includes large amounts of CoQ10, which is a powerful antioxidant involved in energy production and longevity. The owners of Health Force state that the product can be helpful for dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, ferrets, squirrels, other mammals and human animals too! Health Force Nutritionals is an excellent resource for both human and nonhuman nutritional needs.
Vegetarian dog specialists and most companies that sell vegan dog food advise adding taurine and L-carnitine to the diets of vegan dogs. These are two amino acids that are naturally found in animal flesh, but do not naturally occur in plants. Dogs cannot synthesize these nutrients themselves. Deficiencies can be potentially serious, so a supplement is an important preventative measure. Both of these nutrients can be bought at your local health food store, and they are also included in many commercial vegan dog products.
Another supplement that we have included in our dogs’ diets is nutritional yeast; either Red Star Vegetarian Support Formula or Lotus Brands – both of which are rich in B vitamins, and are fortified with Vitamin B12. Whether or not you include nutritional yeast in your dog’s food, you should make sure that they receive an adequate source of B12.
NB: Harbingers of a New Age provides a supplement called ‘VegeDog’, which provides two of these: Vitamin B12 and taurine. One month’s supply of this fantastic product costs just $12.00. That’s only 40 cents per day to make sure that your dog is getting these important nutrients, as well as other essential vitamins and minerals.
Dogs need a certain amount of oil in their diets, and if they’re lacking it, their coat will be a clear sign. A lusterless coat can transform after a few days of including a nutritious oil in the diet, such as flax. A dog’s oil requirements can also be met with 1-2 tablespoons of tahini (sesame seed butter), flax seed oil, hemp seed oil, or ground flax seeds. A teaspoon or two of organic sunflower, olive, or other food oil poured over their food will get them to eat anything! Flax and hemp have the added benefit of being Omega-rich.
There are many studies that confirm the powerful healing benefits of giving dogs flax seed oil or another fatty acid blend. To ensure your dogs are receiving the necessary essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6, & 9), add 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of vegan essential fatty acid oil. Mustard seed oil contains all the essential fatty acids. An alternative (though it’s not as complete), would be flax seed oil, hemp seed oil, or 1 teaspoon of ground or soaked flax seeds. (This is beneficial for vegan humans as well). ‘Total EFA’ oil also serves other purposes such as helping joint function and coat health. These oils are especially important for senior dogs.
Vega EFA Oil Blend is made from a combination of antioxidant and phytonutrient rich seed oils including green tea seed oil and blueberry seed oil. Deva and V-Pure are now producing vegan DHA, long chain fatty-acids from seaweed in a capsule for humans, which you can share with your companion animals.
Cranimals organic supplements contain vegan EFAs like DHA and ALA, as well as beta-carotene and a host of other valuable phytonutrients (urinary tract, dental and heart healthy antioxidants from berry extracts and vitamins and minerals from organic spirulina). The powdered and liquid Cranimals supplements for dogs and cats, as well as their Zendog biscuits, supply EFAs from algae, flax and cranberries.
Being a responsible guardian for any animal means making an effort to ensure that his or her diet is nutritionally complete, just as you would for yourself. The best thing you can do for your animal friends is to continue to keep yourself informed, as there is new research being released all the time. To feel secure in your decisions, we suggest that you do some personal research as to the nutritional requirements of your dog’s specific breed.
Having said that, we have found that most vegans agree that it’s easy to feed dogs a plant-based diet. Even dogs who turn their noses up at vegan food when it is initially offered will often change their mind the next day when they get hungry! And within days, they eat with gusto, as if they had always been vegan!
The change in temperament that occurs as a result is remarkable. As dogs lose their taste for flesh and blood, their desire to hunt and kill tends to lessen, making them less aggressive and more gentle. We’ve actually watched our dogs evolve from killing small animals to protecting and gently playing with our rescued rabbits!

Vegan Cats: The Bottom Line (by Andy Williams)
Cats do not need meat to survive.
Technically speaking, cats need a specific assemblage of nutrients which meet all of their dietary needs. Chief among these are taurine, arachidonic acid, pyroxidine, methionine, and vitamin A. It just so happens that these nutrients are conveniently packaged in the proper proportions in form of fresh meat. It is also important that the cat's diet allows them to maintain a healthy pH balance between 6.2-6.4
Now, if modern science could provide a way to deliver these nutrients without the need for killing animals in horrific slaughterhouse conditions, would this be such a terrible thing? The commercial meat-based pet food industry creates a 'food' that is so far removed from the natural diet of the ancestor of the common housecat, and one that is so lacking in the essential nutrients that a cat needs, that they must supplement their product with the very same nutrients that vegan cat food manufacturers add to their products (taurine, vitamins, minerals, etc...). Go read the label on your meat based cat food. Again, if this is the perfect food for them, then why the need for all of the supplementation?
Furthermore, as a vegan, why would you choose to doom hundreds of animals to die in a slaughterhouse to feed a single animal that only exists due to human irresponsibility and hubris? Why love one animal (your pet cat) and kill others (cows, chickens, turkeys, sheep, etc)? Isn't this the same question that we ask carnists? Domestic cats should not really exist, at all. Their existence is not 'natural', so to talk about the 'natural' diet of such animals is complete nonsense. The pet issue is a man made problem, and a man made solution has been created to deal with it. Feeding dogs a plant based diet is a no-brainer and several companies have spent the last few decades working hard to develop plant based formulations that cater to the nutritional needs of cats. Any person who is serious about veganism and saving the lives of animals would jump at this chance! While we are dealing with this situation, why exacerbate the problem by bringing even more animals into the circle of suffering?
People often claim that feeding their cat a plant-based diet is cruel because it harms the health of the cat. Given that all of the required nutrients are present in such diets, I'm not sure from where these claims arise. What percentage of housecats finish their lives with a tearful goodbye at a vet clinic because of cancer or some other malady which forces their owners to "put them to sleep"? Is the particular diet that was fed to the cat for all her life ever questioned? The fact is that if you are not feeding your cat live mice and insects, you have no place to judge a person who is trying to find a way to feed their cat in a more compassionate manner.
If anything, forcing a cat to eat meat is 100% detrimental to the health of the cows, chickens, ducks, sheep and fish that are killed in the factory farming industry. It's really a matter of who's life you care more about--the cat you do see or the faceless animals you never have to see. The good news that plant based cat and dogs foods do exist. Dogs are easy. 99% of dogs will do just fine without animal products. In some cases, cats won't take to it, but the protocol or transitioning a cat to a plant based diet is well established.
The meat-based diet that you have chosen is not markedly more "natural" than a properly supplemented plant-based offering. Many cats have thrived on such a diet with the added precaution of careful monitoring of pH, a problem which can usually be addressed with a supplement that brings the pH level back into the proper range.
I've been asking the question for years, and thus far, not one person has been able to explain how forcing countless animals to suffer and die in a slaughterhouse is a more humane solution than trying a healthy, properly supplemented plant-based diet for your cat.
At the very least, I would encourage those with cats in their lives to study the options carefully. Many vendors have been selling plant-based diets for cats for decades with great success. Here is a good link to get you started...

My dogs were not always vegan...to start with I tried both standard prepared wet and dry packaged petfood as well as a short period of BARF/RAW feeding quickly abandoned.
I took a look one day at the content of the Royal Canin standard non vegan dogfood as well as Hills another high quality approved non vegan brand and looked in petshops etc at other package details and realised...the actual FLESH content of standard petfoods was only 25 percent ! I thought well nutritional needs are obviously being met via the plant content of their foods. I heard at a Wolf Sanctuary in the mountains of France they were feeding their reserve kept wolves on standard low level flesh content food also ! they highly recommended not feeding the wolves RAW in fact...
Here is a short summary of the percentages on 1 standard non vegan kibble dogfood...I studied many packets...the majority of those sold in vets...have 25 percent flesh meal on average. "Burns Choice Chicken and Maize: £41.00 12kg: Burns have brought out a cheaper variety of their most common and classic recipes, it is called Burns Choice.
The ingredients are Whole Grain Maize 71% Chicken Meal 17% Peas, Chicken Oil, Seaweed, Vitamins, and Minerals."

Then my bitch got Stomach ulcers...besides kennel cough (in spite of vaccination) and Ehrlichiose (unvaccinatable fly sand insect bite caused deadly disease that attacks internal organs and blood of the dog in the space of a few days the dog can die and she nearly did, this can i read later also lie dormant for 5 years with no obvious symptoms and rear its ugly head later therefore) so...all kinds of tests as usual to find the causes of any illness in my dogs done...medications given of course...but the ulcers were not going away...then came the acidity issue found to be responsible for the ulcers...I thought it was the meat that was acidic but no it is the stomac that reacts to the meat...anyway...acid..ulcers...simple words that i did understand at the time...and then told...go vegan...the dog needs to cut out meat/flesh the medication isn't helping it is getting worse. So ? Dogs went vegan . It turns out that he acidity of not meat itself but the acids produced in the stomac to digest meat excessively being harmful and can be a contributory factor to stomach cancer ultimately. I found on vet recommendations Royal Canin produced in Canada Vegetarian/Vegan dogfood kibble ! Meat is now proven scientifically to cause high risk stomac and other cancers in humans...seems highly likely our dogs are also having these similar reactions...the additives in cattle feed, pesticides put on crops and grasslands, the antibiotics in farmed animals are not "natural" at all...all sorts of poisonous toxic substances are today in flesh. Seeing how greedy of many of my vegetable and nut foods my dogs were , the decision for them to go VEGAN was made...stomach ulcers disappeared...coats shiney and high energy visible...vet constant checks all fine...POOH turned SOFTER I did notice...and varied...sometimes mostly HUGE light brown sausages like a chopped up swiss roll for my MALE dog and smaller darker brown more solid smaller longer sausages for my BITCH...but also often occasional porridge like light brown from my male...showing differences in stools of both dogs on the same diet...albeit SNACKS eaten varied as each dog has their preferences my male Falcon not so keen on peanuts that my bitch shells faster than I do lol ! I changed occasionally also from giving them home made mixes of cooked cereals with TOFU or changing from Organic to Non organic Kibble vegan food ...and noticed every time stool changes immediately ...organic seemed to produce darker more solid stools...different manufacturers also showed differences in the stools. They did NOT seem to digest QUORN well on 2 occasions given in emergency as out of food...a mushroom funghi human food...so that is to be avoided in future.
Eating grass occasionally then vomiting episodes still continued for both dogs also. Especially immediately after a change of diet given to them or in reaction maybe to things as TREATS they had been given and eaten.
Dog Stools, Pooh, Poops are a useful indicator of state of health. For dogs, humans all of us. Too solid means constipation problems and too loose watery means diorhea problems indicating causes to be concerned about and try to identify. Worms can also be seen if the dogs have those but often invisible to the naked eye but also a possible cause of ill health besides evidence of having eaten something that does not agree with the dog or caused by other health problems.
I THINK IT IS INTERESTING AND MORE IMPORTANTLY USEFUL to talk all aspects of indicators of our pets health...STOOLS (pooh, poops, faeces, feces, shit whatever word people use as well as URINE (pee, piss, piddle) are a big indicator ! and we can all learn about our individual dogs as well as generally.
Flesh and bones if those are eaten pass through the digestive system longer than plant based foods. Dogs have much shorter intestines to process food than us humans have so food moves through faster in dogs and that is safer as flesh rotting is toxic of course fast. Flesh also creates very acidic digestive juices needed to digest flesh, more so than for plants so harmful to intestines often.
World Health Organisations have warned us now... meat causes cancers. our dogs not affected too ? dream on. there is poison in pesticides antibiotics etc in farm animal feeds ! dogs are sicker more allergies more cancers etc just like humans trends !

Cayenne Pepper ! i jaw dropped when i saw that in the standard BARF recipy for dogfood ...the excuse for having that spice was that it helped alleviate HEART PROBLEMS in dogs ! why on EARTH would so called fed natural raw flesh dogs need a Cayenne Pepper spice in their foods ? that island...the Cayenne islands where it is grown is not the hunting feeding grounds of many wolves lol ! it is probably beacause dogs fed too much FLESH and FATS of animal sources get HEART PROBLEMS just as humans do lol. Anyway...Cayenne Pepper...is highly stomac irritating to dogs ! it can burn their PAWS even ! it is a spice of CHILLI family. LOADS of dog nutrition and general dog experts specifically warn AGAINST chilli and Cayenne Pepper I add for the reasons given. We think...those Raw/Barf promoters are feeding their dogs only flesh ! that is the IMAGE they like to promote with their misleading I now realise pictures etc...but the reality is...IT IS NOT NUTRITIONALLY ENOUGH ! as looking in detail at their recipes hidden mostly from initial view show !

Vegan Activist Dogs with me Leafleting and just grunting " vegan dogs" in reply to what are they ? then not satisified usually with that answer...people ask again...meaning ? what BREED sigh...so I reply. VEGAN BELGIAN SHEPHERDS lol...then people start talking BELGIAN ? is that like Collies ? Sheepdogs ? they look like collies a bit people say...and I reply jaja...they were historically SHEEPDOGS. SOME people in Liverpool said GROENENDAELS ! i was then lol the one surprised to hear that ! they are not a very well known breed at all in Britain. Anyway...here were were in Liverpool with the Fab 4 Beatles Paul Macartney Vegan too !
Currently dogs' ages 6 and 7 in 2017 having been Vegan fed for over half their lives to date. A few EMERGENCY one off non vegan feeds done when short of supplies...digestion problems vomiting and diorhea effects noted immediately following those unfortunate occasions. Occasionally when I change their vegan supplier or type of food they also get obvious digestive problems, as they did when i changed their non vegan foods, so it is obvious that dogs do not like VARIETY or CHANGES to their diets.
Dogs would LOVE to eat chocolate etc it would poison and kill them so unfortunately we cannot just give our pets what they LIKE and wolf down in great eagerness...it is not that simple.

there were ROOSTERS and PIGS and SHEEP etc at Capricorn Rescue in Wales...how can we take the lives of such darling innocent animals to feed unnecessarily unhealthy dead bodies to ourselves and our companion animals ? there is no need...it is healthier NOT to. What is in standard VET SHELVES PETFOODS if non vegan is ? 80 PERCENT VEGGIES..the very minority animal content o say 20 percent is the most unhealthy part of the kibbles ! only there to provide PROTEIN ...that TOFU has more of per gram than flesh without the antibiotics and other harmful substances like GMO soy feed to farm animals ! Human grade Soy is another matter altogether ! The reason humans etc get gluten allergies etc is due to GMO modified not the same as 40 years ago Wheats etc ! all in Farm animal feeds...so if feeding companion animals non vegan only 20 percent animal content kibbles ...the WORST quality content is in that part of their food. The most common FOOD allergy for dogs and cats is ? POULTRY ! ot surprising...due to poultry having the MOST antibiotics pumped into them to keep them alive just the 6 weeks in cages of 19 chickens to 1m2 cages before killing them on production line machines that of course miss struggling hung up by their legs birds in terror and pain.

BIG CAVEAT AGAINST TAKING ADVICE THERE even clearly stated.
Simple. DO NOT TAKE ADVICE THAT IS NOT DETAILED WITH NUTRIENTS AND EVIDENCE CLEAR FROM ANY RECIPY OR OTHER NUTRITION MATTERS. If not AAFCO APPROVED STANDARD CLEAR...do not trust recipes based on pretty pictures of dogs dressed as clowns or whatever eating as evidence enough that that food is good enough for their health.
That advice of course goes for ALL facebook or other such advice read or given. EVIDENCE MATTERS...APPROVAL BY NUTRITIONAL ORGANISATIONS MATTERS...raw feeding...is NOT APPROVED BY ANY VET ORGANISATION IN THE WORLD...it is strongly NOT recommended in fact. That a few vets making money from such raw barf feeding promote it...is clear ...but until...the massive problems of ill health that flesh fed dogs in their hundreds of thousands disapppear...which they will not...do not believe that the animal content of the lowest standards in the food world are healthy for your dog or cat. They are not. They earn vets billions of fees to treat the effects of those unhealthy and cruel produced foods.
AAFCO is the petfood major authority that sets standards for nutrients in petfoods. Most vegan commercial petfoods EXCEED aafco standards in many things like ? TAURINE as standard in dogs and cats petfoods...good for hearts of both. As is fresh omega 3...fresh as destroyed in hours when in contact out of the flaxseeds source it comes from. TAURINE is ALWAYS VEGAN in all petfoods whether non vegan or vegan also btw. During time I spent on facebook dog and cat groups..I saw plenty examples of sick unhealthy raw and barf fed dogs with massive problems...heart problems are the latest big health problem costing owners thousands....diet is a major factor besides genetics for this as is lack of exercise...dogs on leads permanently is totally unhealthy for them. unnatural of course. Raw fed cats were supplementing their diets with VEGAN TAURINE unaware it was vegan lol. Says it all.

ALL DOGS CATS NEED TAURINE AND OMEGA 3 SUPPLEMENTS TO PROTECT THEIR HEARTS. THE PETFOODS SOLD ARE NOT ENOUGH OMEGA3 needs to be given from FRESH not already ground flaxseeds...and taurine is simply easy to give as a daily supplement too.
CONCLUSIONS: PETFOOD If Flesh/Animal content based is very unhealthy and unnatural.
Am I pleased I do not feed my dogs petfood of animal substance ! the numbers looking at the USA figures of slaughtered for human consumption animals and average human consumption figures indicate that petfood flesh must be sourced from dubious sources ! cruelty cases sick diseased animals not on the slaughter numbers of those slaughtered for human consumption. AND DISCARDED EUTHANISED DOGS CATS AND HORSES INCLUDED included.
we DO KNOW that 10 percent of the intended before 9 billion land animals eventually are officially slaughtered in the USA per year, 1 billion animals die before getting to slaughter as a "normal" part of death and disease accidentally due to mistreatment, ill health, transport etc. I think this number is easily increased to 20 percent 2 billion. It is the PARETO principle of 80/20 that applies to everything in business.
PET FOOD ! If Flesh/Animal content based…is using the most diseased unhealthy parts of animals in petfood cancers/tumours included. It is also sourced from the cheapest imported animal parts subject due to being PETFOOD to the lowest failed quality controls of course for human food." the QUALITY issue !

USA produced slaughtered animals for humans mostly. Petfood however is another matter hey...The United States Department of Agriculture has no regulatory authority over pet food. USDA regulates meat used for human consumption under division FSIS (Food Safety Inspection Services), the agency does not officially regulate meat for pet consumption. Raw pet foods manufactured under constant USDA inspection and meat shipped to a human food manufacturing facility that also manufactures a pet food were under USDA jurisdiction during manufacture, however after they become ‘a pet food’ they no longer are responsibility of USDA.
apart from the NUMBERS of ANIMALS killed for PETFOOD involved...which is for the USA based on weight/size of chicken/rabbit size animals 18 billion chickens/rabbits per year to feed USA 200 million pet dogs and cats a 30 percent flesh/animal parts based kibble (20 pecent of the 200 million feeding 100 percent RAW make that number high....3000 animals per pet eaten if fed RAW over 1 average pet lifetime or 900 animals if fed a 30 percent animal content kibble)
There is nothing "natural" about factory farming food for pet animals. Lions / wolves do not cage and forcibly breed animals to eat.
Lions / wolves do not naturally eat off PLATES either. Letting loose a cow for a pet cat or jack russell to chase after and bring down to kill in a house ?
Vultures not Lions/Wolves eat DEAD FLESH they are NECROVORES ! a real CARNIVORE eats flesh warm not dead for days/weeks/months as the unnatural flesh is that we feed so called Carnivores as if they are Necrovores like Vultures with different digestive systems.
In the "wild" only 1 in 8 of an average wolfpack reached adulthood. Died of food poisoning mostly. Is this what we want to be "natural" for our pets ?
